Wiedźmin

Było to w 8. klasie.
We Włodawie przybyło, a na Sanie bez zmian.

Siedziałem w klitce (wyodrębnionej z wielkiej płyty) zwanej szumnie „pokojem”, ale byłem szczęśliwy, bo to był Mój Pokój.

W tle, z po trupach skompletowanej Diory i Altusów, grała Trójka.
Miałem pokój i spokój.

Aż nagle niczym toaletowy w papierniczym pojawił się Bartek, kolega najlepszy.

Na trzecie piętro po prostu wbiegł — ale w tym wieku mogłeś, jak cię nic nie bolało, to cię nic nie bolało i nie zastanawiałeś się, czy w związku z tym przypadkiem już nie żyjesz.

Wbiegł, wpadł, rzucił na stół „Fantastykę” przemyconą z kiosku „Ruchu” i prenumeraty dla lekarzy, inżynierów i pani z mięsnego.

A kiedy nią rzucił, lakonicznie (jak każdy zajebisty 15-letni twardziel) rzucił: „czytaj”.

I świat już nie był taki sam.

Dzisiaj Sapkowski obchodzi urodziny.

The Witcher

It was in eighth grade.

Things were on the up-and-up in Włodawa, and on the San River, nothing had changed.

I was sitting in a tiny cubbyhole carved out of a prefab concrete apartment block and grandly referred to as a room, but I was happy, because it was My Room.

In the background, Program „3” was playing through a Diora stereo and a pair of Altus speakers I’d cobbled together by hook or by crook.

I had a room. I had peace and quiet.

Then, out of nowhere—like toilet paper in a stationery store—appeared Bartek, my best friend.
He simply sprinted up to the third floor. At that age, you could do that. If nothing hurt, nothing hurt, and it never crossed your mind that perhaps the reason was that you were already dead.

Up he ran, burst through the door, and slapped a copy of Fantastyka onto the table—a copy smuggled out of a Ruch kiosk and reserved for doctors, engineers, and the lady from the butcher’s shop who somehow always knew someone.

And when he threw it down, he said only one thing—briefly, economically, the way every badass fifteen-year-old does: “Read.”

And the world was never quite the same again.
