„Mamihlapinatapai” In the Yaghan language, spoken by a nomadic tribe from Tierra del Fuego, it describes a lingering look shared between two people waiting for the other to initiate an action they both deeply desire but lack the courage to begin. So… I’m throwing it all in!
Outside, the weather is miserable, and the New Year is just around the corner.
It’s that time again for quitting smoking (super easy, I know people who’ve done it thousands of times!).
Shedding those extra inches (a piece of cake, or maybe not – especially when it costs you a hefty fee at one of those „Specialized Centers for Special Clients” with New Year Memberships available for a week, two weeks, or three days, depending on your resolve and enthusiasm).
Diving into that pile of unread books, the „Tower of Shame” (which, let’s face it, has turned into a monumental heap. It’s so tall that my phone charger has a permanent home on top of it. Well, never mind ruining the aesthetics – I’ll start with the brand-new book I’m buying tomorrow! And I’ll keep at it… every day).
Then there’s quitting meat and maybe, just maybe, finally ceasing to toss around expletives.
Oh, forget it! Screw this perpetual tightrope walk between existentialism and vegetarianism.
How about we all just do what everyone dreams of but no one dares to begin: „Throw it all away and move to the middle of nowhere.”
But… Bieszczady? Nah, it’s nonsense.
What’s the point of „throwing it all away” when all it takes is a few corners, a straight stretch, and a speeding ticket, and voilà – you’re there. And what greets you? A crowd of people, full 3G network coverage, and Blik payments accepted everywhere.
Wouldn’t it be a hundred times better to grab your trusty car, truly throw everything away, bid farewell to your phone, and, for good measure, toss it out the window? Pack a few ragged clothes, grab a quick snack, and hit the road?
Don’t overthink it, don’t get emotional – just go!
Set off into the distance, shoes off, gum in your mouth, and drive, drive until time, space, gravity, and the land itself give out.
Leave it all behind, stick to side roads, take your time, lose yourself on purpose. Stop when you feel like it or when you don’t – wherever, whenever you want.
Small towns for coffee, roadside forests for some peace and quiet… just soak it all in, savor the moment.
Stay with kind strangers, hold conversations in perfectly unknown languages, and then leave them alive and well.
Travel, discover the world, those foreign lands, indulge in their cultures, taste their dishes!
Immerse yourself in the bliss of being nowhere.
Throw yourself into this vast world that runs parallel to ours and forget about the mundane – the petty politics and the soul-crushing commute to work that grinds life into the pavement.
After all, we’ve only got one life! Just one! It flashes by like lightning, gone before you know it, slipping through your fingers like sand.
That’s it! I’ve made up my mind. I’m not waiting anymore!
Now, immediately, right this moment… I’M THROWING IT ALL AWAY! Tossing it, ditching it, hurling it, abandoning it. Nothing will hold me back because I’m off!
„Honey, I’ve decided. Without drama or hesitation. I’m leaving everything behind and setting off to see the world. Know this – I’ll travel until the money runs out!”
„Oh, so you’ll be back by dinner? Don’t forget to pick up some milk on your way home.”
